New Year Resolutions

Firstly, on behalf of ForLook design, we’d like to wish all our readers and clients a very happy New Year.

The beginning of a year is always a quiet time for designers – this is when we rejuvenate our design energy; do a bit of research; get inspirations; sort out our material library and so on…

Next week we’ll put together a list of what to see and where to go for inspiration and ideas. Then we’ll write about the design trends of 2008 – what’s in and what’s out; what will be trendy and what will be naff this year. Then we’d like to continue our series on Green design - how to live ecologically yet cheaply, how to remodel our homes in a green way, which materials are green and which are no-nos.

Christmas Ornaments

Traditionally today is the day to put up the Christmas decorations in our home. Many of our clients ask us about decorating their homes for Christmas, particularly about the latest trends and where to buy the Christmas Ornaments..

Eco Christmas

It’s no longer just the right thing to do to live an eco-friendly life, it’s become chic and hip to do so. Therefore more and more people count their carbon-footprints; recycle religiously; consciously try to save energy; eat only locally produced organic food and so on. Yet at Christmas time this lifestyle tends to go right out of the window..

Eco living

This is very weird. I was just about to write a post about eco-materials and was searching for previous eco-related posts so as to be able refer back to them. Well, I couldn’t find any! We have been running this blog for two years now and surely we have written about being green, the importance of sustainable design and eco-friendly interiors???? It seems, we haven’t. Shame on us!

Ikea Catalogue 2008

There was a time when I was so excited to receive the new IKEA catalogue that I immediately dropped everything else in order to browse through it. But those days are long gone. I only just opened the new catalogue today, having received it more than a month ago. And I’m yet again quite disappointed..

100% design

Between the 20th and 23rd of September, Earls Court will again be hosting the 100% Design show, this year joined with 4 other exhibitions:- 100% Detail, 100% Light, 100% Materials and 100% Futures.

Whether you’re a designer or just interested in interior design, this annual exhibition is always worth a visit. You are able to see what’s in and out in the world of interiors, and what the new trends are.

Although it’s meant to be trade show, on Sunday 23rd it will open to the general public.
Tickets cost £15.00 online or £20.00 at the door (it is free for trade visitors if they register online). You’ll be able to get into the accompanying exhibitions, with the same ticket or badge, although these ones are more specialist - focusing on specific details.

London Design Festival

Today is the beginning of the London Design Festival. This is the festival’s fifth year - it will last for 11 days. There will be many events, projects & exhibitions spreading across the city. However, the hub of the festival is the South Bank - specifically the Royal Festival Hall, where you attend talks and can find out about all the contributing events.

These are the main events during the London Design Festival:..

Craftsmanship

As we have written before, there is a reaction to mass-produced artefacts and furniture - the new trend is to commission bespoke furnishings and decorative elements. We, at Forlook, have decided to give artists and designers the opportunity to show off their work in our blog. They can get a bit of exposure and hopefully get commissioned, whilst other designers, artists and readers may be inspired by their work.

Our first case-study is Andrew Boyce.

More things to do

This weather is appalling, isn’t it? It’s bad enough that most of us are bored to death in our offices ( colleagues, clients, subcontractors… everybody on holiday), but not even being able to enjoy a bit of evening or weekend sunshine is just awful.

Anyway, if you can’t sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine why not take in a few exhibitions and shows? I already suggested some places to go, but here are a few more things to see in London and around the UK before everything gets back to normal..
