Colours & practicalities

As you’ve read in the previous articles, decorating with colour is not just about going to a store and choosing your desired colour from a swatch. Colours affect us mentally, physically and psychologically. The same colour can make some people relaxed others restless. Furthermore, different tones of the same colour can affect us differently. In fact, according to research, it’s the tone rather than the hue of a colour that primarily affect our mental and psychological being. So if you choose the wrong tone of your favourite colour, it can make you feel just as sad and edgy as your most hated colour. This is why you should not copy colour schemes from magazines and TV shows!..

Decorating with Colours  - part 2

You and your space

ColoursAs you’ve read in the previous article colours affect our mind, our physical and psychological being. It also seems that it’s not the hue of a colour  that has the main effect but its tone and saturation. So, before you start decorating with colour, instead of asking yourself what colour you should use - your question should be what tone & depth you should have..

Decorating with colour

ColoursDecorating with colour is not as easy as it seems. When it comes to decorating or redecorating our homes, one of the most important dilemmas we face is what colour should it be?  We are bombarded with hundreds of colours, hues and tones, pastels and naturals, labelled with evocative or designer names - all staring at us seductively on never ending shelves in DIY stores and home decorating shops. Yet we remain confused as to which one to go for, so we end up choosing the one that looks best on a swatch or has a nice image on the tin or is part of a trendy range or a magazine recommended it or a friend has it in their house…  And almost always we end up with the wrong tone, shade or hue. Why? Because getting the right colour for a space needs planning, experimenting and proper preparation (which most of us don’t do)..

New Year Resolutions

Firstly, on behalf of ForLook design, we’d like to wish all our readers and clients a very happy New Year.

The beginning of a year is always a quiet time for designers – this is when we rejuvenate our design energy; do a bit of research; get inspirations; sort out our material library and so on…

Next week we’ll put together a list of what to see and where to go for inspiration and ideas. Then we’ll write about the design trends of 2008 – what’s in and what’s out; what will be trendy and what will be naff this year. Then we’d like to continue our series on Green design - how to live ecologically yet cheaply, how to remodel our homes in a green way, which materials are green and which are no-nos.
