Home Show
If you’re thinking about going to the Home Show at Excel, but haven’t bought your ticket yet, don’t bother. I went yesterday and wasn’t very impressed. It’s not about ideas for homes - it’s more like a furnishing bazaar and upmarket food hall. It’s really not worth it. Most of the “exhibitors” don’t even offer good discounts on their products – only maybe 5 or 10% off retail price..
There were a couple of good ideas and nice presentations. I found some wax crystals to make some interesting candle arrangements. I haven’t tried it out yet, so I can’t comment on it, but it looks funky. You can read more about this product by clicking here.
I was also impressed by the beautiful & imaginative wallpapers at the Graham & Brown stand. They also presented large digital prints that could make the focal point of a contemporary interior.
As to window treatment, I discovered the Curtain Factory Outlet, where most designer curtains are sold at max £6.99 per m. Also, the self-adhesive Frosted Window film is becoming more affordable and easily available. Purlfrost sells them in 2×1m rolls ready to cut to size. Ready to cut patterns are also available – to make interesting alternatives to frosted windows or net curtains.
That’s about it! I didn’t find anything else that made an impact on my imagination, but I’ll definitely be using the above products in my future designs!
If you’ve already got your ticket, you might as well go, but do have breakfast or lunch first, as the food is rather overpriced – for example an ordinary sausage put in a ghastly cheap white roll cost £2.75.
