Personal Logos

The latest trend in design is “personality” - we want objects, furniture and accessories to be unique. No wonder crafts and hand-made things are becoming more and more popular.

The reason behind this is that our lives have been McDonaldised - mass-produced clothes, furnishing and items make us & our homes look the same. Even designer labels have lost their exclusive allure - they are more affordable, more international than they used to be.  Not to mention what the chav culture has done to some of them..

So individuality & uniqueness are the keywords of this decade - even if we get factory manufactured items we want them customised and personalised.

Logos are a good start to customise things such as clothes, soft furnishing, furniture, stationery and so on.  First you need to decide on the design for the logo - this really depends on how you want to use it.  Most people like to use their initials or names and work around these letters. These logos or crests then can be used in a very flexible way - not only on letterheads and napkins, but on linen, cushions, ornaments, tableware and personal items (such as jewellery boxes, make-up boxes, wallets etc).

The more simple the design of a logo, the more flexible can be its use. So don’t overdo the details and colours. The trendiest fonts are the traditional, Celtic, hand writing and retro styles.

Here are  a couple of good sites where you’ll find lots of fonts that can be downloaded free.

Letter-based logos can be designed and created in Word. Then you can print your final desugn onto different materials - such as paper, film, iron-on or transparent sheets.

Image based logos look good on stationery, T-shirts, mugs, platemats, napkins etc.  Lots of people like to use their house as a background image - but a good picture of your pet, family or your favourite holiday can also work well. If you decide to have an image-based logo, you should use a software such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to manipulate the image further. Photoshop has many built in shapes and brushes that allow you to get creative.

However, if you’re not very good at using this type of software, you might wish to look at a few designs I’ve put together - ready to be customised. (this page will be published later).

If you’d like us to help you design your logo or crest, please let us know what you have in mind and we’ll get back to you with a quote.

In the mean time look at a few personalised logos we have recently designed.
