The Perfect Home

Did you watch The Perfect Home last night on More4?
At last someone publicly questions the British housing phenomenon of living in reproduction buildings. We designers don’t quite understand why anyone would want to live in a new building that looks two hundred years old??? OK, wanting to live in a period house or wanting to have original antique furnishing around us is one thing, but wanting to simulate the past? What’s the point of that?

Anyway, the second part of this program is on tonight, so try to catch it. I’m sure last night’s program will be repeated.
We’ll get back on this subject with our opinion later on. If you have anything to say about this just comment below.

I really enjoyed your final programme on wednesday 12th July 2006. During the programme You suggest the decietful tactics used by the designers when creating the show home. Do you think it a good or bad idea that Original artwork is now being hung within the show home. Do you think this is a good idea or bad?. Any views on this question would be most greatfully recieved.

I watched the final programme, back in May, but can’t recall Alain De Botton suggesting that designers are deceitful. A show home gives ideas to people as to how to decorate the space. They do not have to follow it. As to your question regarding original artwork being on display at show homes, why not? They complement a space and might even get sold to people viewing the properties!
