Trendy Christmas decoration
In the previous article we discussed when it’s the most suitable time to put up your Christmas Decorations. If you decided not to do it on St Nicholas’ day (6th dec) which was yesterday, the next traditionally suitable day is the St Lucia’s day (13th Dec).
In the meantime you should purchase or make all the necessary decor details. If you’re into a more traditional style you’ll find no difficulty finding baubles, ornaments, wreath and garlands because most shops cater well for this look..
However if you want something different, unique or trendy, you should look around before you decide on a decor theme. Go to the shops such as Paperchase, Heals and Habitat where you can find trendy elements to create a contemporary look. Paperchase in particular offers a wide choice of decorations - from satin baubles to fluffy items to shiny objects etc.
The current trend is to create a diachrome look - for which you’ll need to choose two colours, then build your decor theme around these. Glamour is the keyword - so pair any two of the colours gold, bronze, black, silver, red, ivory or mauve. Combine these with reflective & transparent materials such as mirror, plastic or glass. Textures should be shiny & glossy - and textiles of satin, silk or lace.
You can now get simple and elegant garlands and wreaths - made of silk or feathers. Here are a few examples:

Baubles are not just for the tree - hang them from curtain rods, make installations hanging from the ceiling, or simply put them into a large glass ball to be put on the dining or coffee table.
Your Christmas tree should be modern - either a twig tree or a feather one. Most of them are prelit with fibre optics - if not, just wrap around a string light. Don’t over decorate it - it might be best to leave it alone undecorated or elegantly understated.
Finally don’t forget the lighting - but also remember that less is more. Do not put string lights around your windows and elsewhere - instead just place them into large vases, and place them into corners. Use lots of scented candles in glass tumblers and/or beautiful glass candelabra and place these on your mantel or dining table.

We are not selling them. These examples are sold at Heals, Habitat & The White Company. Hopefully you’ll be able to buy them next season too.

Christmas is a time of festivities, fun, and unfortunately, tacky decorations. So, instead of ignoring the holiday all together or gritting your teeth and bearing it, decorate for Christmas with classy alternatives. http://www.home-decorating-reviews.com/blog/48/decorating-for-christmas/
