Wallpaper

As I wrote in the previous article, wallpapers are de rigueur in a contemporary interior. Big bold patterns and metallic or textured finishes are the current trend. However, you do have to be careful with large, dark patterns as they tend to draw a space inwards, making it seem smaller. So in a smallish room opt for smaller patterns in subdued colours or silhouettes. Also use shiny finishes to bounce light back into the room. Remember, although wallpaper is back - it is not to be put on all your walls. They are used only on one wall of a room to create a feature wall or a canvas of focus. So don’t go over the top!..

Besides funky and retro patterns, there is a growing tendency for traditional patterns - but, again, with a modern twist. Check out these collections:

The other direction that has influenced wallpaper design are the Orientals. These designs will continue to thrive. They can be very seductive, feminine and exotic.

They also have other inspiring collections.

As we discussed in the previous article, the other trend that will dominate interior design in the coming year is the use of natural elements and materials. Even this direction has its own wallcoverings! Try out Muraspec for leather, bamboo and sea grass coverings.

Remember always to get a sample before you buy a roll, then try it with both natural and artificial lights and against your furnishing.

If you want be a step ahead in the world of interiors, get digital murals or customised wallpaper made to your specifications. Graham & Brown have a good digital collection and most suppliers will digitally print your chosen image onto their wallpaper. Alternatively, you could paint your design directly onto the wall!
