What Not to Miss in Summer 2008

Here is the Summer, but so far it hasn’t been very nice, so what can we do in this weather? Actually quite a lot. The long evenings are the ideal time to pop in to an exhibition and  see what artists and designers are up to around the world. Here is a short guide as to where to go in London..

V&A

If you want to be inspired by some glamorous designs from the Regency period, check out Thomas Hope: Regency Designer which ends on 22 June 2008. Admission is £5.75.

While you’re at the V&A it’s also well worth looking at a the free exhibitions, such as The Art of the Book (till 29th June), 100 Years of Structural Engineering (until 7th September), The Constructed Book, Poem and Object (until 17th Aug) and The Art of Drinking (until 26 Sep).

If you’re interested in patterns of wallpapers and fabrics, check out the From Atoms to Patterns exhibition which explores the works of the Festival Pattern Group - a project for the 1951 Festival of Britain - which have not been seen together since! This is a free exhibition and it’s a must for every interior designer! It finishes on the 10th August.

Lastly, the London Festival of Architecture is starting on the 20th June and will run till the 20th July. There will be 600 exhibitions, lectures, installations, walks, tours workshops and parties held at various locations around London. Find out more about the events here.
